*This is a full-time position working Monday thru Friday during the school’s calendar year. No evening or weekend hours. No part-time positions available.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Education Specialist will receive training to assist the On-Site Manager and Teacher in the daily management of student’s instructional programs and is responsible for ensuring compliance with student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide 2-on-1 or 1-on-1 supervisory assistance to students as designated by the classroom teacher, On-Site Manager and/or Principal
- Assist Teacher with providing educational and daily living support to students with autism and similar developmental disabilities. This includes
- classroom tutoring for ALL assigned students
- assisting students with personal hygiene upkeep
- assist with the implementation of educational and behavior intervention plans
- Collecting data for
- student Progress Reports
- job coaching
- behavior intervention planning
- transportation reports
- individual education plans (IEPs)
- Ensure compliance with all Education Code and Health and Safety Code standards
- Assist with the development and implementation of community based work/volunteer jobs, social and recreational activities
- Required attendance at monthly staff meetings and specialized in-services trainings as requested by Teacher and/or Principal
- Assist with the transportation of students to-and/or-from school and on community outings in company vehicles. This includes:
- driving company vehicles: passenger and mini-vans
- preserving the safety of the students and staff while in company vehicles through observation, behavior intervention and documentation
- working with the students and staff to sustain the cleanliness of the vans
- reporting any and all vehicle maintenance issues to the transportation coordinators immediately
- operating the company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner
- Other duties as assigned that are designed to work as a team to improve A Better Chance School’s ability to educate our population and preserve the safety of the staff and students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 21 years of age
- Possess a High School Diploma
- Minimum of one year of experience working with children and/or adults with developmental disabilities
- Ability to meet Community Care Licensing requirements to include: (1) physical examination (2) TB test (3) DOJ and FBI criminal record clearance
- A valid California driver’s license, personal vehicle insurance coverage, and a clean driving record
- Ability to work well with a diverse population of clients, families, and staff
WORK SCHEDULE:
Full-time: Mondays through Fridays; ABC School calendar days
